TM 219: Medical Language
- This course provides a basic understanding of the language of medicine as it pertains to the practice of medical transcription. Relevant and widely used medical language related to all body systems is presented. Medical vocabulary, including prefixes, suffixes, and root words as well as plural forms of medical words, spelling, and pronunciation, is reviewed. Word-building exercises provided in the course aid in the understanding and spelling of medical terms.

TM 220: Anatomy and Physiology
- The course covers topics and concepts in anatomy and physiology relevant to the practice of medical transcription. The structure and function of cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems in the human body are presented. The interrelationship and interdependency of anatomic structures and physiologic functions enabling homeostasis, normal physiological function, and life are addressed. Common pathological conditions will also be discussed.

TM 221: Pharmacology
- This course introduces general aspects of pharmacology related to body systems and its application to the practice of medical transcription. Topics presented include dosage calculations, medication administration, and pharmacology for multisystem applications.

TM 222: Beginning Medical Transcription
- This course is an introduction to the practice of medical transcription. Using computers and industry-specific software, students apply proper format, grammar, punctuation, proofreading, and usage of medical language while transcribing beginner-level dictation into a variety of medical reports. HIPAA regulations and confidentiality of medical documents are discussed. Students learn the basics of using industry reference materials for medical transcription accuracy. This course also covers the multiple formats and styles of the health care record. Records to be covered are medical chart notes, progress notes, history and physical examination reports, as well as a variety of business documents.

TM 223: Intermediate Medical Transcription
- Intermediate-level medical transcription knowledge and skills are presented. Using computers and industry-specific software, students continue to apply proper format, grammar, punctuation, editing, proofreading, style, and usage of medical language while transcribing intermediate-level dictation into a variety of medical documents. Students also utilize industry reference materials to aid in the accuracy and transcription of health care documents related to dermatology, otorhinolaryngology, ophthalmology, pulmonary medicine, gastroenterology, cardiology, and endocrinology.

TM 224: Advanced Medical Transcription and Professional Development
- Advanced-level transcription knowledge and skills are presented in this course. Using computers and industry-specific software, students advance their knowledge of proper format, grammar, punctuation, proofreading, and usage, transcribing advanced-level dictation into a variety of specialty reports. Specialty reports include emergency medicine and trauma, internal medicine, and neurology. Students increase their familiarity with industry reference materials including online resources and productivity tools. This course also reviews professional development material including job market trends and resume creation.
