The courses in Kaplan Continuing Education’s Project Management Certificate are designed to teach you proper project management techniques and introduce you to methods and tools needed for successful project management.

BUSINESS TRACK

  • PM 500: Project Management Body of Knowledge

  • This course establishes the framework of the project management lifecycle. Participants will learn how projects are initiated, planned, executed, monitored and controlled, and closed. The course will define the 42 project management processes that are universal to all project types. At the end of the course participants will be able to define the project management life cycle, project life cycles, phases, processes, and the nine knowledge areas of project management.
  • PM 501: Project Portfolio Management and the Project Management Office

  • This course addresses the project centric organization that relies on a PMO. This course will define the six organizational structures and the interaction of project offices, project management maturity models, and how projects are selected in ratio to opportunity, risk, and available capital. Participants will learn standardized PMO processes, forms, nomenclature, and advantages of utilizing a PMO-approach. The course will define the authority of the PMO, the projectized nature of PMOs, and the standardization of projects across an organization for improved efficiency, cost savings, and better utilization of resources and vendors.
  • PM 504: Project Management Certification Preparation (Optional Course)

  • This course will amply prepare participants to pass one or more project management certifications. The course will map to the highest exam objectives. It will prepare students to sit for the Project Management Professional (PMP) certification exam, the Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) certification exam, and the CompTIA Project+ certification exam.

  • This course guides participants through the generally accepted practices of project management in the construction industry. This course focuses on the established cycles of construction combined with the processes of project management. Highlights from this course include cost estimating, time estimating, risk management, procurement, and contracting approaches. Participants will complete the course with a good understanding of how to manage construction projects.
  • PM 504: Project Management Certification Preparation (Optional Course)

  • This course addresses the unique and ever-changing nature of technology. Participants will learn the standardized approach to defining IT project requirements, how to create and use a work breakdown structure, tracking project deliverables, managing stakeholders, assessing IT project risks, quality management, and creating a change control system. IT Project Management will provide participants with an adaptable approach to IT projects depending on the technology to be managed, such as hardware, software, network, and data.
