Become an important part of the dynamic health care industry. KCE’s Medical Billing Certificate program was developed by individuals in the industry with real-world knowledge to help you understand the claims and reimbursement processes associated with commercial and government health insurance.

As a medical biller, you will be a key player in reimbursement and claims processing, and play a critical role in the fiscal stability of the health care industry. Employment opportunities may exist in a diversity of health care settings, including physicians’ offices and hospitals.* Entrepreneurial opportunities may also exist for qualified medical billers interested in owning and operating their own medical billing businesses from home.

Medical billers are responsible for a variety of activities, including processing health insurance claims, reconciling unpaid claims, managing accounts receivable, researching and resolving delinquent accounts, contacting insurance companies, and working within the parameters of private and government insurance systems.

Make a Difference

Be an important member of the health care industry, and utilize your medical billing skills each time a patient receives medical attention, a claim is billed and processed, or a medical bill is examined. Medical billing requires proper recordkeeping, analysis, and claims processing skills. Errors related to medical claims are costly, so accuracy and attention to detail are important. You will likely speak with insurance companies and health care providers regularly, so good communication skills are essential. Government regulations, Medicare, Medicaid, workers’ compensation, and commercial insurance policies require medical billers to have an in-depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the medical billing process.

Imagine What You Can Do

  • Understand claims processing, accounts receivable, and reimbursements. You could gain clarity on how the medical insurance system works in the U.S., including commercial health insurance as well as Medicare and Medicaid.

  • Utilize valuable medical billing software that is updated to maintain integrity and compliance within HIPAA regulations. Reference patient information in computer databases for insurance purposes.
  • Recognize various diagnoses, treatments, and terminology.

Imagine Where You Can Apply

Medical billers may enjoy careers working with various health care providers in a diversity of health care settings. Employment may include physicians’ offices, long-term care facilities, pharmacies, outpatient facilities, and home health agencies.*

Be an Entrepreneur.

In addition to the opportunities available at the offices of health care providers, you could gain the valuable skills and knowledge to help you potentially establish, market, and operate your own medical billing business from home. Create a work-life balance that suits your lifestyle.
