Information Technology

 

In order to complete a Kaplan Continuing Education online career training program, students need a personal computer (PC) with a modem and access to the Internet. This program incorporates the use of email, discussion board postings, and navigation of the Internet for Web Field Trips. The use of Microsoft® Word documents for a Learning Journal is recommended.

 

 The following system requirements are the minimum necessary to access the curriculum:  

Hardware

  • A PC running a Microsoft Windows Operating System (XP, Vista, or Windows 7; please note, release candidate versions are not supported) or Mac OS X with the operating system’s minimum requirements for processor, memory, and hard drive (See the Microsoft or Apple website for minimum requirements)*
  • At least 10.0 GB of free hard-drive space (additional space may be needed for multimedia files)
  • 1024 x 768 monitor with a 16-bit or greater video card (24-bit preferred)
  • DVD-ROM drive or CD-ROM drive
  • A dedicated, reliable 128 Kbps or faster Internet connection
  • Sound card with speakers and microphone (for selected courses)

  • To download Adobe Reader 8.0 or a more recent version, click here

  • A current antivirus and antispyware application that is updated regularly
  • Adobe Flash Player 9.0 or a more recent version (free download on the Internet)
  • Sun Java 2 SDK (Java 1.5) or a more recent version for PC (free download on the Internet)/Classic Java (MRJ 2.2.5) or a more recent version for Mac (free download on the Internet) (For Cisco courses, the latest version of the Java Runtime Library)

Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE) Certificate: Windows Server 2003 on a network with other computers, Active Directory with administrator rights, Windows XP with administrator rights, and Windows Vista with administrator rights.


Cisco Certified Entry Networking Technician (CCENT) Certificate: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and current version of the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). (Both are free downloads on the Internet.)


Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) Certificate: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and current version of the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). (Both are free downloads on the Internet.)


Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) Certificate: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and current version of the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). (Both are free downloads on the Internet.)


Cisco Certified Design Associate (CCDA) Certificate: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and current version of the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). (Both are free downloads on the Internet.)


Cisco Certified Design Professional (CCDP) Certificate: Microsoft Internet Explorer 7.0 and current version of the Java Runtime Engine (JRE). (Both are free downloads on the Internet.)
